Making For Change: Community Matters!

The new Florence Tops in new prints and colours, including white, have all been made by Making for Change.

Ubere Mama is proud to announce a special collaboration with the London College of Fashion.

The Making for Change initiative brings the London College of Fashion (LCF) together with designers and fashion businesses to develop sustainable garment production with minimal waste and optimal lifespan. LCF says: “Our training programme empowers community participants and women in the criminal justice system with vocational skills and commercial experience for their future fashion careers.” Ubere Mama is delighted to be involved.

“At the heart of Ubere Mama is a fantastic group of people. We are so proud of the network around us, from our lovely customers of nursing mothers and supportive family and friends, to our fantastic UK fabric and trims suppliers,  amazing team of marketers, licencing company, Penguin licensing company, pattern cutters and proud to say UK manufacturers,” says Sarah-Jane Hingorani (SJ), S-J is the founder of Ubere Mama and designer of our breastfeeding clothing range.

“Collaboration  underlies a lot of our work, such as our partnership with Penguin Publishing and  The World of Beatrix Potter to create our Peter Rabbit collection. Our recent initiative welcomes the London College of Fashion (LCF) to the Ubere Mama community.”

Established in 2014, LCF’s Making for Change programme helps women transition from HMP Downview to the community. They receive support, training, and LCF-accredited, industry-recognised ABC qualifications in garment manufacture. Upon release, the women are also offered work experience, mentoring, and, where possible, paid work placements.

This exciting collaboration results in this season’s production of the Florence breastfeeding t-shirt. “We are delighted with this t-shirt,” adds SJ. “It fits into our range perfectly, helping mums to nurse discreetly and in comfort, incorporating our innovative side zipper style. A vibrant hummingbird print is available as well as some lovely colour choices and stylish stripes. I am so impressed with the work of the Making for Change women.”

Making for Change mirrors Ubere Mama’s passion for supporting women and, as a UK-based initiative, reinforces our organisation’s environmental values. “Being enthusiastic about operating a sustainable business means our UK base is extremely important to us, explains SJ. “We maximise our work with UK-based suppliers to support the UK economy and local businesses … Making for Change fits perfectly! This is especially rewarding when it leads to outstanding breastfeeding clothes … we hope you agree the Florence t-shirt is a great result.”

We’re looking forward to our next collaboration!
