Holding Hope on Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is an emotional day for many mums.
It can be full of love and also marked by loss.
I know the sad side of Mother’s Day. It belongs to the women who should be holding a baby but aren’t. The emotional impact can be overwhelming. As founder of Ubere Mama, I have an amazing job … helping new mums feel more confident and comfortable when breastfeeding. My own experience of breastfeeding created this. However, my journey to becoming a mum wasn’t easy. It involved imaginable grief. As Mother’s Day approaches, I would like to acknowledge grief and also highlight hope.
If you have suffered the loss of your baby before, during, or shortly after birth, please hold onto hope this Mother’s Day. Hope can sit alongside grief, acknowledging the baby you’ve lost while also looking to the future. Most of all, remember … you are not alone.
For some women, there may be another pregnancy. It is completely normal to long deeply for a baby while feeling terrified that history will repeat itself. Support is available for this journey, too. You are not alone.
There is expert support available for each parent’s individual, unique challenge.
Antenatal Results and Choices (ARC) is a small UK-wide charity supporting families, healthcare professionals, and anyone affected by unexpected news during pregnancy. It’s a unique and vital safe place for parents. Their helpline and resources offer impartial, compassionate support to people who are:
· trying to understand complex scan results,
· making tough decisions,
· grieving a baby, and/or
· facing a future they never imagined.
ARC was literally a lifeline for me. The support I received during my darkest hours was invaluable and unwavering. If you or someone you know needs support, visit the ARC website.
They also provide training for healthcare professionals in sensitive communication — something that makes a huge difference in life-altering moments.
If you would like to help them continue this vital work, you can donate here. I am pleased to give 10% of Mother’s Day full-priced purchases to ARC. I know every amount makes a tangible difference to this wonderful charity.
If you need support in your difficult journey to being a mum, ARC is there for you. You are not alone.
